Chick thinking big(ger)

City Controller Laura Chick likes that job title so much that the next political office she is looking at is state Controller. She confirms for Rick Orlov in the Daily News that she is considering a run in 2006. Assemblyman Dario Frommer of Glendale and the local member of the state Board of Equalization, John Chiang, also say they plan to run.

Also in the Daily News (and the Times): A bill to hurry up the construction of a carpool lane on the northbound 405 in Sepulveda Pass died after opposition by the Caltrans engineers union. Assembly Democrats blame their party leaders in the Senate, the senators blame the Assembly, and the one Republican assemblyman involved blames the Democrats. Whatever: the bill pushed by Mayor Villaraigosa is expected to come back in January. DN, LAT
