Candidates• Villaraigosa called for an investigation of Nick Tonsich, the president of the harbor commission whose financial dealings were the subject of a Times takeout on Tuesday (and earlier reporting in the Daily Breeze.)
• It's nice to be ahead: with a week left, Villaraigosa says he'll no longer respond to any Hahn accusations.
• The Police Protective League said it will spend $149,000 on pro-Hahn mailers.
• Matt Szabo wonders on his blog about the 8% of Times Poll respondents who said that the corruption investigations make them more likely to vote for Hahn — and the 8% who said the Florida revelations make them more likely to vote for Villaraigosa. No mystery to me. They're just hard-core supporters who refuse to express any doubts about their guy to pollsters, no matter the question.
• Patt Morrison on the cloutless mayor's office.
• The Times' Steve Hymon wraps up the 11th district council race between Flora Gil Krisiloff and Bill Rosendahl.
• Daniel Wood of the Christian Science Monitor on the "new ethnic alliances" of Los Angeles. The photo above, by AP's Stefano Paltera, is with his story in USA Today.
• Sheriff Lee Baca is expected to endorse Villaraigosa today, sources at City Hall say.
• David Zahniser of the Breeze hits with another Florida fundraising story, this one looking at the backgrounds of some of Villaraigosa's Miami contributors. E.g., "Lobbyist Sylvester Lukis, a co-host of Villaraigosa's second event, who was indicted on federal bribery charges and acquitted. While he was found not guilty of all 10 charges in 1997, his wife was convicted of mail fraud in the same case and was serving a 27-month prison sentence until former President Clinton freed her in the final weeks of his presidency."
