Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa released his appointment calendar since taking office in 2003 in response to a Times demand, but Mayor Jim Hahn cited security reasons for his refusal — even though Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer and the mayors of San Diego and San Jose have given their calendars to the press. In the 1980s, Mayor Tom Bradley released his calendar to the Times as well. In Thursday's story, the LAT notes that Villaraigosa last year began devoting more time to his role as campaign co-chair for John Kerry, and after becoming a candidate for mayor set aside up to four hours a day for campaigning. Before he had officially jumped in the race for mayor, he met on April 27 with Hahn campaign chairman Bill Wardlaw. The Times has obtained a limited release of Hahn's appointments and found he was raising funds for the race back in 2003.
