Rob McMillin at the baseball blog 6-4-2 has posted an MP3 audio clip of Vin Scully calling the ninth inning of Sandy Koufax's perfect game at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 9, 1965. Scully paints a picture of the Dodgers rustling on the bench, names the players on the field, and falls silent for thirty-eight seconds after Harvey Kuenn swings and misses for the Cubs' final out. (Kuenn had the improbable fate of making the last out in two Koufax no-hitters. In her book, Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy, Jane Leavy recounts that Kuenn was surrounded in the clubhouse by writers wanting to know the difference between this game and the no-no in 1963. He told them, "About two years.") The young fellow with Scully in the photo is the late Jerry Doggett, his broadcast partner from 1956-1987. Here's Scully's page at the Baseball Hall of Fame.
