OK, I know that last hockey post was promised to be it, but I can't pass this up. Later this month, the Israeli national junior ice hockey team will fly to L.A. to play four games against Mexico's national team. These are kids aged 14-17. At home the Israelis play at the country's only ice rink, in Metulla near the Lebanese border. Two of the games will be held Feb. 16 and 17 at the HealthSouth Training Center in El Segundo, and two will be at the Panorama City Iceoplex on Feb. 19 and 20. While here, the Israeli team is going to Universal Studios compliments of Steven Spielberg. This all comes from the Jewish Journal (scroll down), which says that a Dr. Len Silverberg of Tarzana sits on the board of Friends of Israeli Ice Hockey. So, let's see—kids from the Golan Heights and Mexico are coming to the Valley to play ice hockey, before heading off to a world championship tournament in Bulgaria. Nah, nothing strange about that.
