Spinsanity suspends

Where else but here can you get two-week-old news? An emailer just pointed out to me that Spinsanity announced on Jan. 19 that the political truth squad site would stop posting any more updates. The archives will remain online, so I'll leave the link in the left hand column here. Ben Fritz, the L.A.-based leg of the Spinsanity triangle, continues to post at Dateline: Hollywood, where the latest dispatch reveals that, finally, Sundance will ban films at next year's festival because they distract from the parties and skiing.

Many regular Sundance-goers were relieved at the news, having complained for years that the festival has wandered from its roots in the late ‘90s as a place where corporate marketers could associate themselves with celebrities and entertainment industry hangers-on looking to ski during the day, drink at crowded parties at night, and be inundated with free products and gift bags at least 15 times a day.

A single film will be shown at 6 a.m. to preserve the festival's tax status. Oh, and Dateline: Hollywood says there will be a new name: it will be the “Absolut/Volkswagen/HP/Yahoo!/Activision/Target Festival at Sundance (with a film).”
