The Times asked Bob Hertzberg for the details of his call to break up the L.A. school district and reports today there aren't many specifics to know. The closest thing to a plan, the story says, comes from an interview where Hertzberg said an approach might be to pare off the independent cities that belong to the LAUSD and leave one large central district of about 600,000 students, with borders that correspond to Los Angeles city limits. Hertzberg has been pushing the idea of small districts in his campaign talks, but said in the interview he doesn't know yet if he actually will propose them. Details would be worked out in a task force after his election, he says.

There are scraps of news in the piece, but it's mostly a detailed summary for readers just tuning in to the running saga. It adds up that at least 16 Hahn appointees or city employees have been called before grand juries, says no more indictments are expected before the March election, reports that the former executive director of LAX told investigators that airport commission president Ted Stein led a "pay to play" effort, and sums up the three years of emails from Hahn, chief of staff Tim McOsker and other aides that were subpeonaed along with notes of meetings and calendars.
