Griffith Observatory
That's the opening date for the hugely expanded Griffith Observatory. The landmark in Griffith Park has been closed for renovation since January 2002, but until now there had been no public date for reopening because the money to complete the work had not been secured. Today, Mayor Hahn, congressman Adam Schiff and observatory director Ed Krupp announced a grant from the Defense Department and NASA and a gift from the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Foundation. There's a web page of large construction photos here, but beware before you click: the file is huge.
