Westwood loses another theater *

The Mann Plaza on Glendon Avenue, once a Laemmle house known for its art films and midnight shows, has closed, says the website Cinema Treasures. The single-screen Plaza survived previous scares, but I believe it's in the way of Palazzo Westwood (Alan Casden's mega-sized retail and apartment development approved by the city council in August).

While we're at it: The former Vogue Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard (former home of the International Society of Paranormal Research) is being gutted, apparently to become a dance club. It's one of the many local movie houses designed by S. Charles Lee. Also, Rodger Jacobs emails that the Glendale Cinemas 5 on Orange Drive recently closed.
