Maxwell Kennedy, a son of slain Senator Robert F. Kennedy, held a news conference in MacArthur Park yesterday to say that his mother, Ethel, and six of his siblings want the historic Ambassador Hotel to be torn down. He plans to tell each member of the school board that instead of costly preservation, using all the money on schools would be the best tribute to RFK's memory. Kennedy's position was known before schools chief Roy Romer recently proposed a compromise that spares the pantry where RFK was murdered and a few other pieces of the hotel from the wrecking ball. Romer said Thursday that he'd think about it some more.
