Give him the Golden Mike now

TextI've listened to Vin Scully since I was six years old, and nothing I can remember matches the mastery of his call of the ninth inning today. I was in the car, isolated from any other information. The Dodgers came into the bottom of the ninth down 3-0 to the Giants. I turned on the radio with the bases loaded. Vinnie caught me up, spun out the tension as the Dodgers tied it up, and kept me mesmerized right up until Steve Finley hit the grand slam to clinch the division. Then he shut up and let the stadium roar tell me the rest. A masterful 10 minutes of radio.

The final: Dodgers 7, Giants 3. L.A. begins the playoffs next week. (But's what with the tags dangling stupidly off the back of their victory caps. Somebody should have snipped off the labels a week ago).
