In this week's New Yorker, Tad Friend's Letter from California gets up close and personal with San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom. The headline reads "Going Places." The story is not online, but I checked and there's no mention of the mayor of a larger California city a bit farther south (not San Jose). If you just must click on something, James Surowiecki has a short piece on Michael Eisner being the victim of his own failure to groom a successor. (* Or the Ruth Franklin piece on Graham Greene, emails John Shannon.)
