Rainer shifts at 'New York'

Adam Moss continues to reinvent New York magazine. His latest addition is Ken Tucker, the ex-Herald Examiner rock critic and longtime critic-at-large for Entertainment Weekly. He becomes the magazine's film critic beginning with the October reviews. What does this mean for Peter Rainer, another alum of the HerEx (and other L.A. publications) and current member of the team at KPCC's "FilmWeek"? The memo obtained by Gawker obscures even as it explains:

New York Magazine’s previous film critic, Peter Rainer, will continue to write for the magazine in other capacities and will remain a contributing editor.

And who didn't see this coming: Kurt Andersen will write a bi-weekly column. The co-founder of Spy magazine and Inside.com — himself a former editor-in-chief of New York — joins the magazine in January.
