The Animal Defense League's favorite tactic to press for more humane treatment of pets at city shelters is to picket with amplified sound in front of the homes of city officials. But when they tried it Saturday evening at Mayor Hahn's house in San Pedro, neighbors stuck together. Before the clash ended, a protest leader's video camera was thrown to the ground and broken.
