Getting soaked *

The Animal Defense League's favorite tactic to press for more humane treatment of pets at city shelters is to picket with amplified sound in front of the homes of city officials. But when they tried it Saturday evening at Mayor Hahn's house in San Pedro, neighbors stuck together. A Daily News story says that when the protesters arrived about 8 p.m., Hahn was watering the yard. While he went inside, residents of the street turned Super Soakers on the protesters and got into shouting matches. Before the clash ended, a protest leader's video camera was thrown to the ground and broken.
