New website in town*

Gawker Media's long-rumored L.A. blog Defamer joins the party Tuesday morning. It's said to be mostly about Hollywood. The company run by online veteran Nick Denton is also behind Gawker in New York, Wonkette in Washington, Fleshbot (which has reports today on porn star sightings around the Valley) and Gizmodo for the "gadget obsessive." The first snap review of Defamer, from a New York blogger who heard it talked up at a conference on blogs tonight in Manhattan: "It looked great! more up my alley than gawker, being that's my industry and all." And from another blogger at the conference (bottom of post): "Ooh, looks nice. Hollywood Reporter meets Gawker."

Tuesday update: Choire Sicha of Gawker is editorial director and the Defamer him or herself -- dare we say themselves? -- is anonymous. Variety has an item today on the launch.
