Awards to LAT, KPCC

The 2003 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for Excellence in Journalism, from the Society of Professional Journalists, include prizes for the L.A. Times and Ilsa Setziol of KPCC (89.3 FM). She won in radio feature reporting for her piece on what water policy has done to the Colorado River Delta. The Times won in three categories:

Non-Deadline Reporting (circulation of 100,000 or greater): "Butterfly on a Bullet," Robert Lee Hotz of the Los Angeles Times. In-depth analysis revealing Columbia's mechanical flaws.

Photography Spot News: "The War in Iraq," Carolyn Cole and Rick Loomis of the Los Angeles Times. Captures the experience of ordinary people and soldiers on both sides of war.

Online Deadline Reporting (Affiliated): "The Southern California Wildfires," The Staff of Los Angeles Times.

Setziol continues to report on water issues. She did a piece last week on the impacts of lining the All-American Canal through the Imperial Valley. Audio here.
