The Pasadena Weekly's April Fools edition (no longer online, far as I can tell) pushed some noses out of joint, including that of the Pasadena superintendent of schools, Percy Clark. In the issue, mock letters to the editor were included from several Pasadena figures. The fake letter from Clark, who is black, was the only one with extensive misspellings, poor grammar and faulty syntax. When Clark complained that the parody was racially offensive, the Pasadena Star-News ran a story about it. Now the latest issue of PW carries an indignant letter from Clark, other critical letters, and an editorial apologizing ("if Clark or anyone else perceived the letter as racist") but defending the parody and the paper's past record on race.
