Some media and books things going on around town in April. The calendar gets updated through the month:

April 5 John Seely Brown, former chief scientist at the Xerox Corporation, gives keynote speech at Walter H. Annenberg Symposium at USC. Info.

April 8 Michael Barone, author of Life, Liberty, and Property: How 9/11 Changed the American Political Landscape speaks as part of the Zócalo Public Square lecture series at the Central Library. 7 p.m. Info.

April 8 Ron Suskind discusses The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul O'Neill under the auspices of the USC Annenberg School. 5 p.m. All Saints Church, 132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena.

April 17 Independent Writers of Southern California holds a session on branding for writers with Jack Barnard. 10 a.m. Info.

April 18 Launch party for Terminal Island, a new Jack Liffey mystery by John Shannon. San Pedro Public Library, 931 S. Gaffey Street . 2-5 p.m.

April 21 Amy Goodman, the host of "Democracy Now" on Pacifica Radio will speak and sign books. 7-10 p.m., Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 3330 Wilshire Blvd.

April 21-23 California Studies Assn. holds three-day conferece at Loyola Marymount. Info.

April 24-25 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. All day, at UCLA. Many authors will be speaking on panels or signing books.
