More on WSJ bureau

Unlike me, the Business Journal follows up my Feb. 19 report on Wall Street Journal L.A. bureau chief Jonathan Friedland leaving town with some actual reporting. He's going to the New York-based Meximerica Media as managing editor of a startup chain of Spanish-language tabloids in the western states, the LABJ writes based on a Feb. 20 staff memo from WSJ Managing Editor Paul Steiger. Bruce Orwall of the L.A. bureau is called "one leading contender" for the chief job.

Also in the LABJ: LAT Sports Editor Bill Dwyre is ranked the 13th most influential sports executive in Southern California. #1 is Tim Leiweke, Phil Anschutz's man at Staples Center and AEG. #2 is David Hill of Fox Sports Television Group. #3 is Edward Roski, part owner of the Kings, Lakers and Staples Center. #4 & #5 are Lakers owner Jerry Buss and Angels owner Arturo Moreno. Tough list: Eli Broad is rated the LABJ's richest person in L.A., but only makes #22 on the sports list.
