Brian Vander Brug of the L.A. Times won a National Journalism Award in photojournalism from the Scripps Howard Foundation. He gets $5,000 and a trophy. No other locals were honored. Vander Brug's pictures showing the effects of urban homicide on families left behind previously won an ASNE award.
