Viruses posing as emails from people you know are coming around again. Just a reminder, if you get any email with an attachment that claims to be from me or an L.A. Observed address, it's a fake and probably infected. Just delete it unopened.
Speaking of fakes, some jerk posted a comment in the Writers Guild thread two posts down posing as a real screenwriter with a reputation. The real writer was mortified and emailed that it's "a pretty outrageous piece of identity theft." The phony entry has been deleted and the computer that posted it blocked from this site. If we get more info on the poseur, it will be passed along.
Absurdly, the faker griped about anonymous posting! On that, he or she has a point. I understand why some people post blindly. But using a real name or your online identity elevates the discussions. Somewhere around 4,000 visitors (final stats: 7,944 unique visits & 45,000+ hits) dropped in yesterday, and fewer than 50 probably posted comments. I think more would speak up if there was less anonymity. Please, stand behind your words and use real names where possible. (For those who don't know, blog comments are not screened or approved; visitors post them directly to the blog. After the fact, personal attacks that hide behind a fake name or email address may be deleted by me without notice. Spam and other attempts to exploit the site are killed summarily and the originating computers blocked.)
Meanwhile, the flood of comments on the LAT's "anti-abortion opera" roars on here.
