City bans some funders

Busy day in L.A. City Hall. In the morning, the City Council by a vote of 15-0 banned some kinds of political fundraising by appointed commissoners and lobbyists. Mayor Hahn immediately signed the measure, and continued his recent transformation on the issue by sending the Council a letter urging more comprehensive reforms that would require more disclosure and include a wider ban on fundraising by lobbyists.

Also Tuesday, Hahn announced the retirement of E. Jerry Greenwalt, the embattled general manager of Animal Services whose home has been targeted by pickets over euthanasia in city animal shelters. Hahn and councilman Eric Garcetti also announced the creation of a city Office of Immigrant Affairs within the mayor's office.
