Bruce Cook, author and book editor was 71

Bruce Cook was the books editor of the L.A. Daily News from 1984-90 and had been a senior editor at Newsweek and books editor at USA Today. He died Sunday of a stroke at age 71. Cook's DN obit says that he authored 21 books, including 10 Sir John Fielding historical mysteries (under the pseudonym "Bruce Alexander") and four Chico Cervantes detective mysteries. His nonfiction books include "The Beat Generation" and "Dalton Trumbo."
