Business Week's L.A. bureau is out with a cover story in the July 14 issue on film piracy, in which the money men of Hollywood fret that "it's all too reminiscent of the monster that ate the music business...five years ago, music sales were booming. Today, the industry is nearly paralyzed by piracy." There's a package of graphics and online-only stories at the website....Deanne Stillman has an upcoming piece in Rolling Stone on the Phil Spector-Lana Clarkson case, also reported on in the July Esquire by Scott Raab. Jesse Katz of Los Angeles magazine writes in the current RS....Los Angeles has a piece coming on L.A.-based blogger Mickey Kaus....Written By puts on its annual selection of unproduced scripts, noting that they make great fiction reads. Editor Richard Stayton asks in a companion column "is it time for scholars to recognize that the screenplay has become a cornerstone of American literature?"....The summer issue of Los Angeles Confidential is out with 304 pages and not much other reason for being. Uninspired sucking up to lesser celebrities, plus page after page of familiar pics from the last Oscars and gossip fom Cathy Griffin, Liz Smith's L.A. leg woman.
