"Mayor of the Sunset Strip"

The film about longtime KROQ-FM disc jockey (and Monkees stand-in) Rodney Bingenheimer -- and therefore about a swath of Los Angeles pop culture history -- will premiere next week at the IFP Los Angeles Film Festival, which opens today. "A remarkable and oddly touching documentary," says Fred Shuster in the Daily News. The first screening of Mayor of the Sunset Strip at the ArcLight on the 17th is sold out, but the film will run at the Laemmle 5 (both theatres are on Sunset, though not on the Strip) on the 19th. Bingenheimer figures into so much local lore that he even has an entry in Art Fein's L.A. Musical History Tour.
