Newsweek's media writer Seth Mnookin gives 2-1 odds that L.A. Times managing editor Dean Baquet will be offered the job of New York Times executive editor. Before coming to L.A. he was the national editor at the NYT. Mnookin says: "Hes popular in the Timess newsroom and hes done a whale of a job as the managing editor of the Los Angeles Times. Its not fair to say hes one of the best African-American editors in the country because hes one of the best editors, period." The New York Daily News, meanwhile, says Baquet is not the favorite of the NYT newsroom.
